In normal vintages, Domaine Lapierre produces their "Raisins Gaulois" from multiple parcels around the AOP Beaujolais. Due to the challenges of the 2021 vintage, the domaine was unable to harvest several of these parcels, and therefore will not be bottling a 2021 "Raisins Gaulois" this year. However, they were able to isolate a smaller quantity of high quality grapes from two parcels within the AOP Beaujolais (that would normally go into the Raisins Gaulois) and bottled this as a new wine"Le Beaujolais"which will carry the Beaujolais appellation (Raisins Gaulois is Vin de France). Matthieu Lapierre decided to treat this cuvee more like their Morgon cuvee (extended maceration, elevage in barrel, bottled in spring) as opposed to the Raisins Gaulois (shorter maceration, tank elevage, bottled in winter).
