Organic. A blend of Chardonnay drawn from Morel's Saint-Savin vineyard, planted on a mix of stony limestone scree and marl, as well as Savagnin from Morel's 'En Boix d'Arnaux' vineyard, on marl soils. Both varieties direct-pressed, with co-fermentation in old barrels of various sizes up to 600L. Topped-up and aged for three years in the same vessels, zero added SO2. In 2021, in the wake of multiple hardships that afflicted the winemaking world, Valentin was reflecting on the various absurdities and ultimately failings of current winemaking practices and craft. Accompanying his thoughts was the music of Batlik, specifically his latest album at the time, L'Art de la defaite, which translates to "the art of defeat". In 2024, Batlik retired from making music, and Valentin decided to dedicate a wine to him. A wine from 2021 was the obvious choice, given the agricultural havoc of that year and the memory of collective defeat. A unique wine among those produced by Morel in the last five or so years.
