115 year old vine Grenache, dry grown, bush vines trained onto a trellis.
The 2016 Thorny Devil Grenache was made from fruit grown by Barossa legend, Adrian Hoffman, on his Sand Block in the Ebenezer sub-region. As the name implies, this is an unusually sandy site which, due to the free draining nature of the soil, makes for low
disease pressure and allows the use of very minimal viticulture, inter-row planting reduces vigour and encourages bio-diversity. Dodge ploughing reduces the need for herbicide. The fruit is hand picked, wild fermented with 15% whole bunch inclusion for added freshness. Gently hand-plunged to encourage infusion rather than extraction before 10 months ageing in French 500 litre puncheons.
