A single vineyard wine from one of California's old guard. Once & Future is the creation of Joel Peterson, a giant in the world of Californian wine who has been working in that world since 1972. In 1976 he started the now fameous Ravenswood winery with Joe Swan originally so that he could make high quality, single vineyard wines in the traditional, low intervention vigneron style. While Joel got to do that somewhat, the practical concerns of running an expanding bussiness kept Ravenswood from being just that. However now that Joel is an elder statesman of Californian wine (including a stint as President of Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers) he is able to excusively make the wine he always wanted to make.
This particular bottle is all fruit from the Bedrock vineyard in Sonoma, who's vines date back to 1888! While this vineyard has cycled through many owners currently it is tended by Morgan Twain-Peterson, the son of Joel and founder of Bedrock Wine Co. After harvest the Zinfandel grapes are naturally fermented in redwood fermenters. It is then aged in 100% French oak barrels, with 30% of that being new.
This powerful wine of heritage has notes of brambles, cured meat, boysenberry and citrus peel.
