A fresh, everyday wine from a progressive Pugliese producer. La Marchesana is the brain child of Filppo Cassano who's mission was to create Pugliese wines that maintain the weight and power of Apulia, while presenting the often lost finess and minerality. He strives for wines that are as low intervention as possible, eschewing the use of oak and being organic certified. While Filppo Cassano maintains DOC level wines under the name of Polvanera, La Marchesana is meant for wines that are more primary and immediate, therefore making excellent weeknight wines.
This wine is 100% certified organic Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from within the Gioia del Colle DOC. The grapes are grown on red ferrous and limestone soil, and are both fermented and aged in stainless steel.
This lovely yet accessible wine has notes of plums, cured meat and black pepper.
