Originally developed by Genoese chef Vicenzo Castrovillari in 1892, this classic Ligurian amaro achieved cult status among suitcase stuffers traveling to Italy due to its once limited distribution stateside. Now the amaro is made by Gruppo Caffo in Calabria, and no plane ticket is required."S. Maria" is made with over 30 botanicals and is aged in oak in 2 separate stints. There are notes of spearmint, aloe, cinnamon, and wildflower honey. The flavor and fairly high ABV make S. Maria almost fernet-like, but with an uncharacteristic softness one would expect of a southern Italian amaro, fitting for where it's currently made. Pick up this cult classic amaro from us today!
