A rich Zinfandel based wine from the Bedrock winery. Started in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson and based in Sonoma, Bedrock adheres to a preservationist mindset. The winery focuses on the fruit from vineyards planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, during California's first viticultural explosion. Twain-Peterson wants to preserve these vineyards for as long as they can produce fruit, hence the Bedrock project.
This particular wine is meant to be a showcase of what old vine Zinfandel is capable of, with the average age of the vines being over 80 years. The cuvee is Zinfandel heavy, being a mix of 76% Zinfandel, 11% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Grenache and 3% Cinsault. After harvest the grapes are naturally fermented whole cluster with native malolactic, then aged in French and Austrian oak barrels and foudre (with 10% being new).
This powerful wine has notes of stewed blackberry, cloves, black pepper, and plums.
