A Bourdeaux-style red blend made by Ginny Povall in the Stellenbosch, just west of Cape Town. The grapes are from the Protea Hights farm which began life in the 1940's as a farm for South Africa's national flower, the protea flower. Now under Ginny Povall's ownership, the farm is a mix of indigenous flowers and organic grapes.
After hand harvesting the grapes (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot, and 3%Petit Verdot) are crushed and fermented in open topped tanks with twice daily punch downs. It is then aged for 11 months in 300L French oak barrels, with 10% of that being new.
This powerful yet finessed red blend has notes of plums, roasted peppers, tobacco, and cloves.
