A California red blend made with an eye towards lesser known sites. Field Recordings is the project of winemaker Andrew Jones who in a previous life worked for a vine nursery. Field Recordings is Jones' effort to highlight the vineyards he has worked with and to carry those relationships forward.
This particular wine is a massive blend of several vineyards across the Paso Robles AVA that contains 32% Zinfandel, 22% Cabernet Franc, 15% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Charbono, 7% Syrah, 6% Lagrein, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Grenache (phew!). The grapes are all vinified separately and fermented naturally with no additives during the process. Afterward these wines all age separately for 10 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels and foudre (with 20% of this being new). This is all then blended and filtered for bottling with as little so₂ as possible added.
This robust, carefully made red blend has notes of brambles, black olives, figs, and black pepper.
