Owners Burn Stewart, having decided that Black Bottle had strayed a wee bit too far from its roots, decided to take it off the market for a year to reformulate. The reboot features a cool retro (actually black) bottle, and the flavor profile has dialed way back on the peat smoke that distinguished the old recipe by blending in more Highland malts and the result is a generous mouthful of dried apricots, vanilla and spice. Still a nice dollop of smoke, but overall more varied and interesting. The bump up to 43% provides some nice weight. Nice mouthfeel, medium finish, a terrific value.
