A classic sweet wine from a well established producer. De Forville is currently run by Valter and Paolo Anfosso and based in the village of Barbaresco itself. Started in 1848 by Belgian emigrees (hence the decidedly French name), the estate is now in its 5th generation. They hold vineyard lands in both Barbaresco proper and Castagnole Lanze, a small commune due east going toward Asti.
This bottle is made from 100% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains from vines 30 to 35 years of age, from the Ca’del Buc vineyard in Castagnole Lanze. The Muscat grapes are vinified in stainless steel but only partially so as to leave behind residual sugar and carbonation. This results in a wine that is naturally sweet with no additives. It is bottled more or less immediately after vinification, in late winter or early spring of the following vntage year.
This classic yet gluggable sweet wine has notes of lillies, marmalade and clover honey.
