In the 1970s the Guillon-Painturaud family stopped selling juice to the big Cognac houses and started bottling their own, made from the 18 hectares of Ugni Blanc vines that surround the family farm in the Grand Champagne that they have inhabited since 1610. Whereas the minimum aging requirement for VSOP as mandated by the appellation is 4 years, the Guillon-Painturaud is a blend of brandies with a minimum age of 15 years. Distilled on the lees and bottled at 40% abv with absolutely no additives: no artificial color, no sugar, no boise. Seductive aromas of yellow plum and melon, developing into mocha and baking spice with a gentle rancio. Pleasantly rich in the mouth but not fat, apple tarte-tatin and dark toffee, with more spice on the finish. A beautifully crafted Grand Champagne Cognac from a true artisan distiller at a fantastic price.
