A leaner Chianti from a distinct figure within the Tuscan wine world. The Montenidoli estate is owned by Elisabetta Fagiuoli, located on a mountain just above the walled town of San Gimignano. Elisabetta is now generally known more for her whites and roses, an odd thing in the red wine dominant world of Tuscan wine. However when Elisabetta first purchased the estate, it was actually only planted to red grapes! The Chablis-esque soils of the estate however produce a very lean an taught expression of the standard Tuscan profile.
The wine in question is a Chianti Colli Senesi (i.e. Chianti from near Siena) and is made from hand harvested organic grapes. The blend is 75% Sangiovese, 20% Canaiolo, 3% Tebbiano Gentile and 2% Malvasia Gentile: a co-ferment of white and red grapes in accordance to the old Baron Ricasoli Chianti recipie. The cuvee is fremented and aged in stainless steel along with a short time in bottle before release.
This light, chillable take on a Chianti has notes of fresh cherries, terracotta shards, plum skins and autumn leaves.
