Allen Katz and his team at the New York Distilling Co. Have recreated a classic 19th century American treat: their young rye whiskey is gussied up with cinnamon, sour cherries, orange peel and rock candy sugar. "Like an Old-Fashioned in a bottle," they proudly proclaim. We agree - in a market awash in "Big Brand" flavored whiskies (which tend to be comprised of not so much whiskey as neutral spirit, artificial flavors, and glycerin), Mr. Katz's stands out as a genuine article. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, but you do still feel like you're drinking whiskey.
