The Neisson distillery is located in the town of La Carbet on the island of Martinique, south of Mount Pelee and has similar volcanic soil as Depaz and Rhum JM. Now run by Claudine Neisson, daughter of founder Jean Neisson who passed away in 1986. Sugar cane is sourced from 15 different farms, including their own, processed them individually before being blended. Neisson's three day fermentation is one day longer than typical in Agricole production. Distilled in a copper Savalle still and rested for 2 months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
On the nose, 1st aromas of charred cigar leaf, soot, petrol. Then tropical fruit notes, papaya, rhubarb, cola. In the mouth, rich, dramatic entry, honeyed and fruity - apricot, mint, grassy. Nice funky vegetal notes on the long warm finish, with no extraneous heat. 50% abv.
