A structured red from the heart of the Douro region. The quinta is run by José Ferreira who renamed the quinta in honor of his late father, Francisco (aka Popa).
This wine is made froma blend of 45% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga National, 15% Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo), and 10% Tinto Cão, grown on schist and harvested by hand. The grapes are partially destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation is not blocked. Ageing takes place 50% in French oak and 50% in stainless steel over 9 to 10 months.
This Bourdeau-esque wine has notes of cassis, cocoa, gravel and humidor. Try it with strip steak, roast beef, or osso buco!
