The Teeling family founded and operated the Cooley distillery in County Louth from 1987 until January of 2012 when it was purchased by Beam, Inc. As part of the settlement the family kept two warehouses full of whiskey in barrel. In 2014 they began construction on the Teeling Distillery, the 1st new (and now only) distillery in Dublin in 125 years. The malt and grain whiskies that were distilled at Cooley are what they are now bottling as Teeling, while the juice from the Teeling distillery are maturing in barrel.
This blended whiskey contains 40% malt which is high for Irish. No unmalted barley. Malt and grain whiskey aged in ex-bourbon barrels, 5-7 year for the malt, 7-9 year for the grain. After blending, the whiskey is rested for 6 months in Nicaraguan rum (Flor de Cana) casks.
Nose: Orange blossom, banana, citrus, apricot, fresh herbs, mint, green tea, coriander.
Palate: Creamy texture! Fig, raisin, apricots, then cocoa, malt, spice. Medium long finish. Really generous for an Irish. Super flavorful, not at all boozy. 46% abv, non-chillfiltered.
